“One Kid Being Poked Is One Too Many”

— Chief Martin On The Brewer Riverwalk Needle Incident

Brewer Police Chief Christopher Martin joined Q-Point to discuss the recent incident involving a child reportedly poked by a discarded needle on the Brewer Riverwalk and the city’s immediate response. Martin explains why police, fire, public works, and parks staff conducted an extensive search of the waterfront and what they found.

Chief Martin also discusses the Devin Anderson case and his broader concerns about Maine’s criminal justice system, including bail reform, probation oversight, repeat offenders, and defendants being released because they cannot obtain legal representation. He outlines where he believes the system is failing and why greater accountability and communication are needed.

The conversation also turns to homelessness in the Bangor-Brewer area, limited resources, people arriving from outside the region, and Martin’s concerns about how assistance is prioritized. He also shares updates from Brewer’s police and fire departments, including plans to equip a backup ambulance and development of a new three-year police strategic plan.

📻 Airs statewide weekends on The Voice of Maine and WLOB Portland.
