Q-POINT
“Money’s Better Off in the Mainer’s Pockets Than in the Government’s.” — Jones on Taxes, Energy, and Accountability. Part TWO
In Part Two of their conversation with Republican gubernatorial candidate David Jones, Corenna and David Quirk dive into the economic and policy challenges shaping Maine’s future.
Jones calls high taxes and government waste “oppressive,” arguing that working Mainers are trapped in what he describes as “economic prison.” He outlines his plan to make Maine more affordable through fiscal reform, energy independence, and efficiency in government — including the creation of a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to root out waste and redirect resources where they matter most.
The conversation expands into energy policy, where Jones advocates for natural gas pipelines and small modular nuclear power, as well as vocational training, housing shortages, and business growth. He also discusses restructuring DHHS to protect children and strengthen accountability, tackling illegal marijuana grows, and supporting law enforcement to keep Maine communities safe.
Drawing on decades in business, Jones says rebuilding trust in government begins with fiscal responsibility and common sense — putting Mainers first, not bureaucracy.
